Effective: August 12, 2026
Nihon Mode has no accounts and no sign-up. Your learning progress never leaves your device. We only count anonymous, aggregate events (like "the eSIM link was tapped 12 times today") — never who did them.
Your XP, streaks, cleared scenes, badges, phrasebook, Day One checklist and trip answers are saved in your browser's local storage, on your device. They are never uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app or using "Reset progress" removes them.
If you submit a spot or tip, we store exactly what you typed: the name you entered, your country (optional), and the tip text. It is reviewed by a human and, if approved, shown in the app with the name you gave. To have a submission removed, message us on Instagram (below).
Some outbound links (eSIM, rail passes, luggage services, tours) may be affiliate links — if you buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. External sites, including Google Maps and the official sources we cite, have their own privacy policies.
The app loads fonts from Google Fonts and map tiles from OpenStreetMap when you use the Spots map. Those requests are handled under the respective providers' policies.
Nihon Mode is a general-audience travel guide and is not directed at children under 13. We collect no personal data from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. Questions or removal requests: Instagram @nihonmode.app.
